Residual liquid waste generated during alcohol production
Report by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in March, 2021.
Residual liquid waste generated during alcohol production.
Average generation of spent wash is around 8-12 litres / litre of alcohol produced, depending on continuous or batch process and quality of molasses used etc.
There are around 400 distillery units in India, with a total production capacity of about 3800 million litres of alcohol.
As per the report published by Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) in March, 2021, sewage generation from urban areas in the country is estimated at 72,368 million litres per day (MLD), against which sewage treatment capacity of 31,841 MLD was available.
Most rivers, lakes and surface water in India are polluted due to industries, untreated sewage and solid wastes.
The waste water generated in urban areas normally percolates into the soil or evaporates.
